Hazardous materials are substances capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, or property. Each day in the U.S. more than 800,000 shipments contain hazardous materials are sent. As such, it is critical individuals transporting them know as much as they can about both the substances themselves and about how to deal with them should an emergency arise. These regulations, located in 49 CFR Parts 100-185, are also known as the Hazardous Materials Regulations, or HMR.
