Hazardous materials can be found in a lot of workplaces, including hospitality environments, doing a lot of good things. They heat our facilities and play major roles in many hospitality-related tasks such as cleaning and maintenance. However, as their name suggests, hazardous materials pose hazards to our health if we are exposed in an unsafe way. That’s why OSHA established the Hazard Communication regulation known as the “HAZCOM Standard”. It gives employees the “right-to-know” about any potentially hazardous materials they may encounter in their workplace, and how to handle them safely. This training focuses on keeping hospitality workers safe while working with the chemicals necessary to their jobs.
HazMat situations can occur during accidental exposures to the chemicals and toxins you work with and around every day. This training helps workers know how to protect themselves in case of contact and prevention. The course explains the different sources of HazMat information, including labels and Safety Data Sheets. Workers learn about different types of exposures and specifics related to different types of hazardous materials, such as toxins, flammables, and corrosives. The course demonstrates the use of personal protective equipment and the safe storage of hazardous chemicals. Finally, the course concludes by teaching workers how to safely respond to a HazMat spill.
Use this course to teach your team about the Hazard Communication Standard, and the safe work practices they should employ while working with or around hazardous materials.
