Overview

HAZWOPER: Electrical Safety in HAZMAT Environments

Electricity and explosive vapors, dust and temperature-sensitive hazardous materials can be deadly combinations. This training video shows hazardous material workers how to stay safe and protect property when working in electrically-charged hazmat environments. Viewers learn a combination of the right equipment and proper work practices is essential to work safely around hazardous materials.

This video demonstrates the differences between class I, II and III environments, as defined by the National Electric Code, and introduces the proper types of engineering controls and work practices essential for working in environments where explosive vapors and gases are present, where airborne combustible dust is a threat, or when combustible deposits accrue to floors, counters or equipment. Controls such as intrinsically safe systems, hermetic seals, encapsulating seals and oil immersion are discussed. The need to keep equipment cool and well-ventilated is covered, and procedures and hazards associated with purging and inerting gases are explained.

This video helps anyone who works with hazardous materials in electrically-charged environments become more aware of the risks associated with electricity and how to properly manage those risks. The course provides instruction on responding to emergency situations involving electricity in hazmat environments. Viewing this training program will help preserve the lives of hazmat workers, and promote safer working conditions.

This course has been updated to include GHS container labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for GHS compliance.
