High-Impact Lockout/Tagout Training
Lockout/tagout is a set of OSHA procedures used to disconnect and isolate sources of power to machines, pieces of equipment, and other devices, in order for them to be inspected for safety and maintained. Why is this called lockout/tagout? A special lock makes sure no one can activate the machine, and a special tag is placed on the lock to tell passers-by the machine should not be restarted. Performing OSHA standard lockout and tagout processes, before placing yourself in the path of a potential release of hazardous energy, is required by both your organization and by OSHA. Lockout/tagout is also a logical way to protect yourself from injury or death in the workplace.
Every time a worker bypasses safety guards in order to service a machine, OSHA lockout/tagout processes must be performed; it is also required before a worker places any part of his or her body in contact with a machine’s point of operation. Only the employees authorized to perform lockout/tagout can do so, these are the employees trained in OSHA procedures by their employers. OSHA differentiates between two other classes of employees: affected employees and other employees. You will learn the distinctions here, as well as information critical to effectively and safely performing a lockout/tagout. It is imperative you know these steps — An improper OSHA lockout/tagout can lead to serious injury or even death in the workplace. Receive important lockout/tagout training from this Video On Demand.
