Dealing with Drug and Alcohol Abuse for Employees
Perhaps you know someone suffering from, or who has suffered from, drug or alcohol addiction. Or, maybe you are the one dealing with substance abuse and you do not know how to beat it. Drug and alcohol abuse can affect anyone and can damage both their personal and work lives. In this training video, you will learn about the hazards of addiction, various substances to which one can become addicted, the effects it has on people’s lives, and how it can be prevented.
Substance abuse comes in many forms, including the overuse of alcohol, misuse of over the counter medication, or use of illegal drugs. It can also mean inhalation of chemicals or consuming toxic plants. The risks of each kind of drug are unique: for example, a stimulant may create a feeling of overconfidence in one’s abilities and a depressant may make someone exceedingly sluggish. These effects can last for hours, so what is done during one’s personal time may still affect them at work. This course provides specific information on a variety of substances and their unique dangers.
If you suspect someone of being under the influence at work, or being addicted to drugs or alcohol, what should you do? Your company should have policies relating to alcohol and drug use so you can answer that question properly. Utilize the materials provided in this course and recognize the signs of addiction, learn what you can do to help prevent it, and thus create a safer workplace.
