Overview

Oil is a helpful substance, but it can also be a hazard. When oil is spilled it causes harm to the environment and wildlife. It can also be a source of an explosion or fire. It is important workers understand how to properly handle oil in order to prevent spills in order to avoid negative effects on the environment. This course covers information based on regulations from the EPA and California state laws.

Prepare employees to work at sites where oil is used, transported, and stored by using this video. Viewers become familiar with important laws and regulations regarding oil, such as the Clean Water Act and the Oil Pollution Act. Abiding by these laws are good for the company and the environment.

The video gives a listing of both petroleum and nonpetroleum products the government regulates under environmental law. Workers are taught how these substances must be properly stored. They learn about the tanks and equipment used to comply with the law.

Viewers also learn about proper maintenance and inspection techniques for tanks and other spill prevention equipment. Workers learn what to watch out for and who to notify if they recognize a situation that could lead to a spill. They are also trained on Discharge Procedure Protocols and the actions they must take in the case of a spill. Use this video to teach workers how to safely work with oil.
