Intersections: Expect The Unexpected

Professional truck drivers are responsible for clearing intersections safely. Because trucks are larger and move more slowly than cars, it is important for truck drivers to be alert to surrounding and oncoming traffic.

This safety training video shows drivers how to avoid accidents by being aware of what is happening 12 seconds in front of their truck. Viewers learn what they should do when approaching an intersection, such as looking for oncoming traffic and yielding to other drivers even when they have the right of way. Another practical step taught in this video is to cover your brake and be prepared to slow down or stop. You cover your brake by removing your foot from the accelerator and hovering over the brake pedal. This course also gives three examples of accidents and explains how they could have been avoided.
