Driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal, dangerous, and can lead to fatal accidents. To promote health and safety, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has alcohol and drug testing rules that apply to people required to get a commercial driver’s license (CDL). This online safety training video gives an overview of these rules.
This course explains how drug testing is done by analyzing the driver’s urine sample under the following circumstances: pre-employment, if there’s reasonable suspicion of drug use, post accident, random testing, return-to-duty after a violation, and to follow up. The urine is analyzed for marijuana, heroin, phencyclidine (PCP) and other drugs. Viewers are taught about the negative effects of using drugs and see interviews with recovered drug addicts. The course also explains the rules for alcohol testing and outlines your employer’s responsibilities for complying with the FMCSA.
Watch this video to learn how the FMCSA testing is required to protect you and others from alcohol and drug related accidents.
